5 Must-Try Hiking Trails Near Our Asheville Homes

Asheville is surrounded by mountains and forests, making it the perfect place to take a hike and get lost in nature (figuratively speaking, please don’t actually get lost). Here are our top 5 suggestions for trails near our homes.

Blue Ridge Parkway Waterfalls Hiking Tour

• Distance: 8.6 miles (meet-up point only)
• Location: Asheville Visitor Center, 36 Montford Ave, Asheville, NC 28801 (meet-up point)

This guided day trip will take you to three scenic waterfalls around Asheville, including the lush trails of Blue Ridge Parkway. You can bring up to 7 hikers in this tour for a more personalized experience.

Tip: there’s free parking at Asheville Visitor Center so you may safely park there.

Bull Mountain

• Distance: 4 miles

Bull Mountain is a 1.5-mile out-and-back trail that’s generally considered an easy route. On average, this hike can be completed in about 45 minutes to an hour.

This trail is great for hiking and family walks. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Be on the lookout for all sorts of wildlife along the way.

Mountain to Sea Trail: Folk Art Center to Haw Creek Overlook 

• Distance: 5 miles

This trail is a 4.7-mile out-and-back trail fit for more experienced hikers. Expect the hike to take about 2 to 2.5 hours to complete on average. It’s a great hike for bird watching, so keep your eyes peeled as you walk along. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Beaver Lake Perimeter Trail Loop 

• Distance:  10 miles

This trail is a 1.9-mile loop that’s generally considered an easy route. On average, this loop takes 30 to 40 minutes to complete, walking at an average pace. This is a popular trail for birding, fishing, and paddle sports.

Although it can be densely populated from spring to early fall, you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Unfortunately, you’ll need to leave your dogs at home—pets aren’t allowed on this trail.

Rattlesnake Lodge Trail 

• Distance: 12 miles

The Rattlesnake Lodge Trail is a 3.7-mile loop trail best for more experienced hikers. On average, the loop takes about 2 to 2.5 hours to complete.

Tip: this trail does get crowded during the day, so we suggest getting here early. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
